Sustainability at Arp-Hansen Hotel Group

Sustainable tourism

We at the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group are working to promote and develop sustainable tourism. We are doing this by integrating responsible consumption and production into our business. This applies to our choice of suppliers and cooperation partners and, in particular, to our own actions.

Our suppliers and cooperation partners have to commit themselves to living up to our Code of Conduct. Our employees act based on our sustainability principles, which promote the right mindset.

UN’s Global Sustainability Goals and ecolabels

We use the UN’s Global Sustainability Goals as our guiding principle, with a particular emphasis on goals no. 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). It is here that we feel that we can make the biggest and most noticeable difference in relation to our work.

As a complement to the global goals, we work with a number of environmental labels and certifications. They bind us very specifically to actions that can be measured so we can see if the things we do generate the desired effect.

More specifically, we have 5 strategic focus areas, where we have good underlying data and can therefore see if we can really change something.

By changing, for example, the containers for soap, shampoo and lotions, we can eliminate 1,350,000 million of containers every year. The six focus areas are:

  • Waste sorting
  • From spring to tap water
  • From small plastic containers to larger containers
  • Increased focus on The Organic Cuisine Label and Green Restaurant Further
  • reduction in food waste

We are on the right track...

As we amass experience and are inspired by the work of others, we can perhaps supplement with more focus areas.

We feel that we are on the right track with our sustainability strategy and specific initiatives. But this is not equal to knowing everything. In other words, we are really looking forward to any ideas or input you could possibly have about how we can do even more. In this case, you can write to us here!

Ecolabels and certifications

An international label scheme designed to help farmers and workers in some of the poorest countries in the world to get fairer income and better working conditions. At the same time, it ensures that the production is mindful of the environment.

All coffee and tea at the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group is Faitrade-certified.

The REFOOD label is a scheme for companies and organisations in the food and service industry. The brand focuses on reducing food waste and promoting recycling.

We at the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group use the label as both a goal and inspiration for specific initiatives that can reduce food waste and increase the level of recycling. Our ambition is to reduce waste by 30% in the coming years and complement this with increased recycling, among other things, by cooperating with charitable institutions.Green

The Ø-Label is a Danish organic label. The label uses the text “State-certified organic” to certify that the companies to most recently process or package the product are being supervised by the Danish state authorities.

We at the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group use the label for food products, including dairy. Just under 5% of all of our dairy products are currently non-organic.

The Organic Cuisine Label is a complement to the Ø-Label. It indicates how much of the restaurant’s food and beverages are organic.

The label is available in three versions: Gold, Silver and Bronze. It is our ambition to move most of our hotels one category up.

Green Key is the most common eco-label awarded in international tourism. To be able to use the label, you have to meet a number of strict environmental requirements across 13 areas such as, e.g. energy and water consumption.

In Denmark, we have opted to apply the strictest criteria among all Green Key countries. The Arp-Hansen Hotel Group was the first major hotel chain to join the scheme. This happened in 2009.

The world’s leading label for textiles and textile products.

It ensures that all components in a labelled product have been tested for harmful substances. It is based on a standard that is far more far-reaching than the legislation in Denmark and the EU and therefore keeps finely with the level of our ambitions.

All bed linen, towels, bath mats, etc. at the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group are OEKO-TEX®-certified.

The FSC is an international non-profit label scheme for wood and paper. The label ensures that no more trees are felled than the forest can manage to reproduce. At the same time, the FSC is a guarantee that animal and plant life are protected and that forest workers are trained and get proper safety equipment and pay.

We at the Arp-Hansen Hotel Group use the label for paper, napkins and paper towels.

EU Ecolabel and the Nordic Swan labelled products

The EU Ecolabel and the Nordic Swan are Denmark’s official ecolabels. The labels focuses on the overall environmental impact from production and use. This means strict environmental requirements in all stages of a product’s lifecycle, including strict requirements to chemicals.

Arp-Hansen Hotel Group uses the Nordic Swan label for soap, shampoo, lotion and dishwasher detergent. All soap and lotion products are labelled with the Nordic Swan.

The paper towels being used at Arp-Hansen Hotel Group are certified with the EU Ecolabel as well as the Nordic Swan.
